David Lu is the Associate Principal Timpanist and a Section Percussionist of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he began in 2018. He concurrently performs as a section percussionist in the "Salute to Vienna" production's Strauss Symphony of America. David has performed with groups such as the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Princeton Festival POPS! Orchestra, and the Miami Summer Music Festival orchestra. He has also performed in concert tour productions by Video Games Live, The Indigo Girls, Evanescence, and Lindsey Stirling.

David has obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from Temple University's Boyer College of Music and has also received his Master's degree from the University of Maryland School of Music. While at Temple, David, a three-time Glenn Steele Merit Scholar, received the Dr. Milton J. Sutter Jr. Memorial Award for academic excellence in music history. David was additionally a recipient of the Percussive Arts Society's John E. Grimes Timpani Scholarship for baroque timpani performance. He has studied under the tutelage of Eric Shin, Christopher Deviney, Jauvon Gilliam, Phillip O'banion, and William Wozniak. His other teachers and mentors include Sean J. Kennedy, Alan Abel, Don Liuzzi, and Anthony Orlando. Mr. Lu proudly endorses JGpercussion timpani mallets and Grover Pro Percussion products.
